K8trills Studio Information

Student Responsibilities:

  • Please come prepared to perform your homework assignments, do not sight-read.
  • Please bring all music you are working on and any books that are assigned to you.
  • You must bring a flute in working condition. Please make any and all necessary repairs if needed by calling or texting Kara Wuchner: (714) 227-5581‬.
  • Bring a three-ring binder or folder for sheet music and a notebook with room for comments and homework assignments.
  • Feel free to record your lessons to study and take notes outside of the lesson.
  • My suggestion for practicing is to spend 5 – 6 days per week for at least the length of your lesson for the best results. Please plan on dividing your practice between long tones, technique, etudes, solos, and any band music that needs work. If you are a senior or planning on taking auditions for college, this should double.

Studio Etiquette:

  • Siblings and parents can stay in the room if they are not disruptive.
  • Please respect other student’s time and privacy. Do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your lesson time. When it is your time, please come into the studio.
  • If a student is late, lessons end at the scheduled time.
  • If I don’t see the next student, I will continue with the current student and run over time, so if you must leave on time, please let me know so I don’t run over.
  • Parents, please pick up the students on time, students should not be waiting on the street to be picked up. The studio can not be responsible for watching over the student after the lesson ends, as often times there are rehearsals or events that I will have to leave to attend on time.

Cancelations and Make Up Policy:

  • I require a 24-hour advance notice of cancellation. Failure to cancel on time will result in full payment, and no make up lesson will be given. I also reserve the right to reschedule at least 24 hours before our lesson.
  • If you are sick, please let me know a.s.a.p., but stay home. You will not be charged, and you may reschedule, or you may attend your lesson online.
  • There are several built in weeks off during the year.  Please see the calendar online for those dates. No make up lessons are needed for those weeks. If you or I need to cancel a lesson outside of those weeks off, please be sure to schedule a make up lesson at the same time you cancel your lesson by registering for an “open slot”.  I will then adjust the schedule and invoice accordingly.
  • Open Slots are first come first served, and accommodate all students, regardless of contract type.
  • Military transfers, unexpected moves and certain medical situations will negate this contract with no fee, but in these cases the families must try to give a one-month notice.

Other Policies:

  • In the event that my studio is full, I will be happy to put you on a waiting list, or direct you to one of my student apprentices. Upon their graduation from High School, the apprentice’s students will be invited to assume the gratuate’s lesson slot in my studio.
  • If you feel you have to discontinue lessons due to financial hardship, please enquire about scholarships. Scholarships are available to those who committ to 40 lessons per year, must demonstrate exceptional discipline, and must have a minimum of 3 months of lessons prior to submitting a scholarship application.
  • Please park on the street (not the driveway).
  • Please come in without ringing the doorbell (helps keep Merlin calm-ish). =)

Payment:

  • The cost of lessons covers my time with each student at the lesson, and also includes: yearly planning for the studio, an individual plan for each student’s course of study, website and computer software, researching colleges, my training and experience, professional organization memberships, insurance and business licences, printing expenses, practice and achievement awards for each student, flute prom, studio events, ongoing comunication, and professional development.
  • Payment does not include fees for purchased music, recitals, competitions, auditions, or accompanists.
  • Parents will receive an invoice by email on the 1st of each month.
  • Payment are due by the end of the month, and late payments will automatically be assessed a $10 late fee on the next month’s invoice.
  • Payments can be made using the following payment methods with no fee:

K8trills Studio Rates and Lesson Options:

Lessons are available for both flute and piccolo.  The rates listed below above are for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Set Monthly Tuition Rate (with a guaranteed weekly time slot)
$200 per month for 45 minute lessons or $250 per month for 1 hour lessons.  This choice will cover up to 40 lessons during the year, and no fee will be charged if 40 lessons aren’t completed.  This will be your rate whether you have 1 or 10 lessons scheduled in a month.  There are generally 3, 4, or 5 lessons scheduled depending on the month.  If you schedule more than 40 lessons during the year, they will be charged at the per lesson rate.  This is a 12 month contract, and terminating this contract before August 31, 2022 will result in a 2 month tuition fee, unless you find a student to assume your weekly slot, and they will take over your contract
  • Pay Per Lesson Scheduled in the Month (with a guaranteed weekly time slot)
    $60 for a 45 minute lesson or $75 for a 1 hour lesson.
This choice requires 40 lessons per year, and a fee will be assessed at the end of the year if all 40 lessons are not completed.  The 40 lessons must be completed on or before August 31st each year, and the Contract Remainder Fee will be charged on September 1 of the next year.  The fee is equal to 1/2 of the amount of the remaining lessons due, unless you find a student to assume your weekly slot, and they will take over your contract.
  • Pay Per Lesson Scheduled in the Month (with NO guaranteed weekly time slot).  $60 for a 45 minute lesson; $75 for a 1 hour lesson.   There is no contracted lesson amount, no end of year fee, and no termination policy.  You may simply schedule your lessons by registering for any “Open Slot” you see that works for your schedule. There is no guarantee that you will get a weekly lesson.

  • Effective on the 1st day of each September, rates are subject to increase
