Timeless
Kate Prestia-Schaub and Martin KennedyTimeless, a diverse collection of mostly American contemporary music for piccolo and piano, is an offering of broad musical styles, including lyrical, ballad-like melodies, shockingly virtuosic compositions, selections with jazzy nuances, as well as the rhapsodic and exhilarating tango, Desplazamiento, composed by Martin Kennedy. From the title track Timeless, by Ken Benshoof, an expressively melodic and romantic jazz-like piece, to the dazzlingly brilliant Eurythmionics, by SoCal composer and piccoloist, Steve Kujala, the CD appeals to all musical palates. Also included on the CD are Air by Barry McKimm, Flash! by Daniel Dorff, Slow Music for Piccolo Alone by Frederick Lesemann, The High and the Mighty by Michael Daugherty, and Passage by Daniel Kelley. Passionate about participating in the development of an ever-expanding repertoire for piccolo as a solo instrument, Ms. Prestia-Schaub is honored that three of the selections on this CD were written expressly for her: Slow Music for Piccolo Alone, Flash!, and most recently, Desplazamiento. Exhibiting a wide range of emotional sensitivity and technical virtuosity, the exceptional performances of both artists on this CD have garnered prominent critical acclaim.
